Sashiko Chambray

Sashiko began as a repair technique. In rural Japan, where fabric was scarce and winters were long, garments were reinforced with repetitive running stitches — the rhythm of the needle producing patterns of such regularity that the stitching became, over time, a form of craft in its own right.
Chambray began as a workwear fabric. Woven in plain weave from cotton, its surface carries a natural texture that softens and deepens with washing — the kind of fabric that looks better the more it is worn.
The Sashiko Chambray shirt places these two traditions on the same surface. Navy dashes run in vertical columns across a washed chambray blue ground, the geometry of the stitch and the texture of the fabric reinforcing each other. It is a shirt built around the idea that the most considered things are often the quietest.
