Description:

Batik is one of the oldest resist-dyeing traditions in the world — a technique in which wax is applied to fabric before dyeing, the wax-covered areas resisting the dye and producing patterns of precise, controlled complexity. Across Southeast Asia and Southwest China, the tradition produced a vocabulary of geometric motifs — eight-pointed stars, spiral forms, cross-flower lattices, diamond grids — that have been refined over centuries of practice.

The Batik Stripe shirt organises that vocabulary into vertical columns. Navy and off-white bands of varying widths run from collar to hem, each band carrying a different motif, the whole composition reading as a stripe from a distance and as a catalogue of pattern up close. The button-down collar and coconut buttons keep the construction considered without competing with the print.
