Description:

Yuzen is one of Japan's most celebrated dyeing traditions — a technique developed in Kyoto during the Edo period, where intricate floral patterns are hand-painted onto silk with fine brushes and gold-leaf outlines. The Yuzen Sakura shirt translates that heritage into cotton: large cherry blossom clusters in deep navy, sky blue, white and lavender fill the fabric from collar to hem, each petal rendered with an internal grid texture and outlined in gold. A ground of soft cream and pale yellow completes the composition, evoking the warm light of a Japanese spring afternoon.

Kyoto in Full Bloom

Yuzen dyeing was developed in Kyoto during the Edo period by the fan painter Miyazaki Yūzensai — a technique in which floral patterns are hand-painted onto fabric with fine brushes, each motif outlined in gold-leaf paste to prevent colours from bleeding into one another.
The Yuzen Sakura shirt is built from that tradition. Large cherry blossom clusters in deep navy, sky blue, white and lavender cover the fabric from collar to hem, each petal carrying an internal grid texture that references the resist-paste process of the original craft. The cream and pale yellow ground evokes the warm light of a Kyoto spring — the brief, luminous window when the sakura are at their fullest.
It is a shirt designed around a single moment in the Japanese calendar. Wear it accordingly.
