Katazome is a Japanese resist-dyeing technique in which patterns are applied to fabric through hand-cut stencils — a process that produces the crisp, graphic quality of line that defines this shirt. The Indigo Katazome shirt translates that tradition into a patchwork format: navy and off-white panels alternate in a positive-negative inversion, each filled with a different motif — large floral vines, geometric diamond frames, hexagonal lattice, scattered blossoms and botanical leaf clusters.

The two-colour discipline is intentional. It is what gives the shirt its clarity.

Indigo and White: The Oldest Contrast in Japanese Craft

Katazome has been practised in Japan for centuries — a stencil-resist dyeing technique where patterns are cut by hand from washi paper and pigment is pushed through the negative space, leaving crisp, graphic forms on the fabric beneath.
The Indigo Katazome shirt applies that logic to a patchwork grid. Each panel carries a different motif — large floral vines climbing across navy ground, geometric diamond frames enclosing single blossoms, hexagonal lattice, scattered flowers and botanical leaf clusters — alternating between navy-on-white and white-on-navy in a positive-negative inversion that references the resist-dye process itself.
